2013 Summer Internships


MMSD is recruiting for the following summer internship for the duration of 12 to 16 weeks; between May 1 – September 15, 2013 (depending on student schedule).  The hourly rate is $10.40. Most of these are full-time positions.

PHOTOGRAPHER/OUTREACH INTERN 
Executive Director
 
No. of Positions: 1
Duration: 12-16 weeks

Business Objective: Produce photographs for MMSD's website and publications.

Project Description: The main function of the position is to take photographs of the region's water resources and District infrastructure for its website and publications. The intern would also participate in public outreach activities promoting District programs on water related issues.


Expected Outcomes For Students: Professional portfolio of photographs and work experience in communications at a government agency.


Required Qualifications:
Photography, Fine Arts, Journalism or related field preferred. Valid Driver's License required.  Understanding of social media desired.

Hours and Start Times: 10-20 hours per week, hours to be determined









REAL ESTATE INTERN 

Technical Services/Real Estate Department
 
No. of Positions: 1
Duration: 12 weeks

Business Objective: The business objective of the real estate intern is to improve the efficiency of the department in terms of data storage and retrieval.  The current real estate file retrieval process requires searching in several places and sorting through multiple versions.

Project Description: Assist the Real Estate Department to manage the organization a filing systems for Real Estate documents.


Expected Outcomes For Students: Provide the intern with an opportunity to implement library sciences theories and best practices.


Required Qualifications:
Library Sciences student

Hours and Start Times: 40 hours;  7 am – 3:30 pm


CAD GIS INTERN 

Technical Services/GIS Department
 
No. of Positions: 1
Duration: 12 weeks

Business Objective:Supplement CAD Department staff and support Department this summer while we strive to maintain high level of customer service. CAD Intern will work with CAD Coordinator to update CAD standard materials, create master CAD sets for Technical Services, and update poor quality CAD record drawing deliverables.

Project Description: Intern will assist full time CAD Coordinator to allow Technical Services to quickly and efficiently achieve long term CAD goals. Intern will work to create and update Master drawing sets. The intern will support the extensive cleanup of the Landfill Gas Record drawing deliverables. Additionally, the intern will assist in the update of CAD standards, creation of CAD base files, and identification of related process improvements.


Expected Outcomes For Students: Student will gain experience in a regional government office and exposure to CAD/GIS software, related hardware, and peripheral equipment. Individual will work with a team of varied professional experiences and contribute to an important regional sustainability project.


Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 CAD college courses with engineering technician experiences. Basic AutoCAD and/or Microstation experience. Experience with computers, Microsoft Office (including Outlook), office equipment.
