United Water Services Contract

In January 1998, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) hired United Water Services Inc. to operate and maintain MMSD’s treatment plants, Deep Tunnel system, sewer system, and biosolids management. In 1998, the agreement was the largest wastewater service contract ever in the United States.
The 10-year deal is expected to save District ratepayers $140 million over the term of the contract, or about 30 percent over the projected costs of the District's in-house operation. Through the first five years, savings gained from the contract were $66.4 million.
MMSD’s contract with United Water expires in March 2008.
