Lucht

Acres: 32.02
Location: Village of Germantown
Purchase Price: $130,766
Date purchased: September 8, 2003
The former Lucht property is located in the upper reaches of the Menomonee River and contains about 71% hydric soils. During the winter of 2003, 14 acres of native prairie grasses and flowers, such as: big bluestem, evening primrose and purple coneflower, were restored on the property by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Native grasses help trap water flowing through the property to the headwater streams of the Menomonee River. The grasses and their roots also help infiltrate rainwater into the spongy water absorbing soils.
