Help manage water where it falls with discounted plants for your rain garden. MMSD and the Graham-Martin Foundation’s rain garden plant sale starts now for 2016, open to customers within MMSD’s service area. Plants are provided at about a 50% discount (compared to retail prices). In addition to the plant sale, MMSD is offering a FREE Rain Garden Design Workshop where you can learn about rain gardens, plant selection, and plant care.

Dates to remember:

January 18, 2016: MMSD begins taking orders
March 12, 2016: FREE Rain Garden Workshop (CLASS IS FULL)
March 18, 2016: All order forms and payments must be submitted by close of business
June 4, 2016: Plant order pickup
Who can order:
Any private property owner, local non-profit group, or municipality can purchase plants. Plants cannot be purchased for resale. If you are unsure of your status, please contact
How do I order:
Fill out the order form completely and submit your order with a check made out to the Graham-Martin Foundation (NOT MMSD). Read all instructions on the order form carefully. Plants are sold in bundles of 4; one bundle of 4 plants costs $7.60, unless otherwise noted. Some plant species are slightly more expensive. Helpful Hints:
  • Filling out the order form electronically allows the spreadsheet to do all of the math for you and it makes sure we can clearly read your contact information. All you need to do is print off the order form and mail it with your payment once you’ve filled it out.
  • Make sure to get your order in the mail before the last date of the sale. Any orders received after March 18, 2016 (even if postmarked earlier) will not be accepted. This deadline is FIRM. Orders can also be dropped off at MMSD in person.
  • Make sure to mark the pickup date on your calendar; there is only one pickup date.
  • If you are unsure of what plants to pick, sign up for the FREE Rain Garden Design Workshop where you will have access to plant professionals. More details on the workshop are below.

Rain Garden Day Workshop


Fresh Coast Rain Garden Day at MMSD’s Headquarters Building with Optional Tour of Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility
Where: 260 W. Seeboth Street, Milwaukee, WI
On March 12, 2016, come to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s Headquarters building to learn about rain garden basics. The morning workshop portion that will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM will focus on how to design and build a rain garden, how to select plants, and how your rain garden can protect Lake Michigan. After the morning workshop, an optional tour of the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  At the workshop, garden experts will be on hand to discuss design tips and assist you with creating your rain garden. You can also submit an order through MMSD’s Annual Rain Garden Plant Sale that offers rain garden plants for up to 50% off retail prices.
