WHAT DOES THE GRANT PROVIDE?

Grants will be awarded in the form of plants for your rain garden. For every 2.5 inch plant purchased at $3.60, grantees will receive a second plant for free, about a 50% discount compared to retail prices. The number of plants required is typically one per square foot of rain garden installed.

EXAMPLE: the application is for a 10 x 10 foot rain garden, or 100 square feet. The number of plants needed is 100. The applicant orders 50 plants from GMF at a price of $3.60 each. The grantee receives 100 plants and pays $180.00.

There are no cash awards.

Costs for planning, design and construction of the rain garden are not grant eligible.

WHAT IS THE TIME-LINE?

January 14, 2009
Applications are due to MMSD.

January 21, 2009
Grant recipients will be notified by MMSD.

February 4, 2009
Plant order form with a check for the amount of the plant order is due to GMF.

June 27, 2009
Plants will be available for pick-up at MMSD Headquarters Building Parking Lot, 260 W. Seeboth St., Milwaukee, from 9AM-11AM.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE GRANT?

Any group, unit of government or homeowner within Milwaukee County or the City of Brookfield, Village of Butler, Village of Caledonia, Village of Elm Grove, Village of Germantown, Village of Menomonee Falls, City of Mequon, City of Muskego, City of New Berlin, or Village of Thiensville.

Businesses are excluded.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE GROUP OR PERSON APPLYING FOR THE GRANT?

A completed application.

Compliance with all dates.

It is the responsibility of the project coordinator to insure that sufficient transportation is available to move the plants on the designated day within the allotted time frame.

School recipients must agree to place an information sign designed by the GMF and paid for by the MMSD next to the rain garden where the plants were used.

WHAT IS THE FAST TRACK APPLICATION?

Applicants who enter the optional information indicated with an asterisk* on the grant application or who otherwise demonstrate their knowledge and ability to install a true rain garden, including downspout or exterior roof drain disconnect or redirect, may be notified that they are grant awardees prior to the application deadline at MMSD’s discretion.
