MILWAUKEE, Wis. (February 14, 2019) – Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the REALTORS Home & Garden Show and Milwaukee Metroplitan Sewerage District (MMSD) are encouraging homeowners to love the environment. Beginning Feb. 15 through March 21, as part of the Greater Milwaukee Associations of REALTORS® “Fresh Start” initiative sponsored by MMSD, Milwaukee County residents can get rid of hazardous waste materials safely and correctly at three year-round collection sites in Milwaukee, Franklin or Menomonee Falls. In exchange for helping to keep Lake Michigan and Milwaukee County’s water clean, residents will receive one free ticket to the 2019 REALTORS Home & Garden Show presented by Unilock® at the Exposition Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park.
Acceptable garage and workshop items that will be collected include automobile oil, battery acid, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline/oil mixtures, lighterfluid and more. Common household items that will be accepted include solvent-based cleaners, oven cleaner, batteries, fungicide, insect spray, pool chemicals, weed killer and more. Car batteries, computers, fireworks, microwaves, refrigerators, televisions and tires are not accepted. For a complete list of accepted and nonaccepted items, visit www.mmsd.com/what-you-can-do/home-haz-mat-collection.
