Tour Wisconsin’s Largest Water Reclamation Facility
See How Milorganite is Made from Start to Finish
Looking for a truly unique group tour? Sign up for a journey through the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility in Milwaukee, WI. Learn how we clean wastewater and see how we make Milorganite, a fertilizer trusted by experts since 1926.
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) cleans billions of gallons of wastewater every year at two reclamation facilities that serve 1.1 million people in 28 communities. Our jobs are crucial for protecting public health, area rivers, and Lake Michigan.
Our Jones Island Facility is also home to Milorganite, a fertilizer sold across the United States and Canada. Golf course superintendents and master gardeners love the stuff and you can tour the building where it’s made.
Walking tours of Jones Island are available for groups all year long (weather permitting) for adults and students grades 5 and up.
