MMSD Captures & Cleans 98.5% in 2013
Out of all the storm and wastewater that entered MMSD's regional sewers in 2013, the District captured and cleaned 98.5%. Nationally, the capture and clean goal is 85% for the more than 700 cities that have combined sewers.
MMSD did have two overflows in 2013, totaling 1.1 billion gallons. They occurred when heavy rain over a two week period in April dropped a uniform five to seven inches of rain on the District's service area.
One inch of rain on MMSD's service area equals 7.1 billion gallons of water.
