06/30/25 12:45:pm

The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin now collects 250,000 gallons of water every time it rains, while providing therapeutic outdoor spaces for patients, staff, and the community.

The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin located in Glendale, WI undertook a significant green infrastructure project to enhance stormwater management earning them a Green Luminary® award! As a result, the hospital now collects 250,000 gallons of water every time it rains, while providing therapeutic outdoor spaces for patients, staff, and the community. The site previously housed an orthopaedic healthcare building that was demolished and removed.

This project involved the construction of a large bioretention basin fed by runoff from the parking area, complemented by native landscaping and trees, and a walking path to support physical therapy.

MMSD’s Fresh Coast Green Communities Program was proud to be part of these impactful projects with our partners Greenprint Partners and Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin.
