Hermes and Martinsek Re-Elected MMSD Commission Chair & Vice Chair


(Milwaukee, WI) – Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) Commissioners today re-elected John Hermes as Chair of the Commission and Kris Martinsek as Vice Chair for 2017.


Hermes, principal of John Hermes Consulting, started on the MMSD Commission in 2006. Hermes was first elected Greendale Trustee in 1998 and thereafter served nine years as Village President. He spent 33 years as a federal air traffic controller with most of his career spent at Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport. Early in this career, John became involved in federal legislative efforts on behalf of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association and has served in local, state, and national legislative and governmental relations roles. Hermes also has recently served as Vice President of Aerotropolis-Milwaukee Corporation and Chairman of the Root River District of the Boy Scouts of America.


Martinsek is principal and owner of Martinsek & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in the provision of public information, public relations & marketing and government affairs & public policy. She has more than 40 years of experience in the public and private sectors working on highly visible public projects providing information and organizing the public around issues to gain support and move projects forward. Prior to starting her firm, Kris worked for the City of Milwaukee. She previously served on the Harbor Commission, the Wisconsin Women's Council, and a variety of not-for-profit boards.


Of the 11 Commissioners that run MMSD, seven are appointed by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and subject to Common Council confirmation. The other four Commissioners are elected by the Intergovernmental Cooperation Council, which includes elected suburban leaders from within the District.
