2050 Facilities Plan
2020 Water Quality Initiative
The Oak Creek Southwest Metropolitan Interceptor Sewer Extension is a sewer extension project to provide sewer service to the southern-most areas of Milwaukee County and northern Racine County. This project began as a request from the City of Oak Creek, City of Franklin, Village of Raymond, and the Village of Caledonia in 2014. The extension was included in MMSD’s 2050 Facilities Plan and Capital Improvement Budget.
In 2022, MMSD began the design of the project, which extends the 24-inch sewer from Oakwood Road to the county line to serve the Village of Raymond and the Village of Caledonia. The City of Franklin and the City of Oak Creek will also be connected to the sewer extension once it is completed. Concurrent to this planned MMSD project, a private development has been proposed within the 27th Street corridor. MMSD is working with the developers and municipalities to coordinate the activities of the two projects.
The proposed sewer extension will be constructed in the median of 27th Street and will be approximately a mile long. The sewer depth ranges between 25 and 85 feet deep and will be constructed using microtunneling methods. The photos below are examples of the micro-boring machine and support structures from similar projects that used a micro-tunneling method.
The design is anticipated to be complete in late 2025, and the construction is expected to be complete in 2027.
