GREENSEAMS NOW PROTECTING 3000 ACRES

More than 3,000 acres of mostly sponge-like soils are now reducing the risk of future flooding in the Milwaukee area through the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) Greenseams® Program.  Recent acquisitions bolstered the overall acreage to 3,057 since the program began buying land in 2002 with its partners.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources helped fund the Lynn property purchase in Farmington through its Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program with a grant to the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust.  MMSD hired The Conservation Fund (TCF) to run Greenseams®. TCF is a national non-profit conservation organization that forges partnerships to protect America's legacy of land and water resources. TCF performs high volume real estate transactions for local land trusts and government agencies throughout the country.
