2020 Water Quality Initiative
The Freshwater Resources Monitoring group is responsible for conducting surface water quality monitoring to nearly 100 monitoring sites throughout the Milwaukee area watersheds. Millions of field and lab generated results are analyzed each year to characterize the rivers, creeks, and Lake Michigan. The data are collected in compliance with MMSD’s WPDES permit and are used to assess the impact of the conveyance system, treatment plant operations and District projects on the waterways. The group prepares regulatory and program specific reports as well as uploads the data to state and national databases that are used for regulatory, research, and educational purposes by external stakeholders.
To summarize the large amount of data collected each year, the Freshwater Resources Monitoring group produces an annual report that highlights water quality in Southeastern Wisconsin.
