Bay View April Storm Meeting Update

10/09/26 04:00:pm

Thank you to everyone who attended the Bay View Community Open House: The April Storms & Our Sewer System on October 6, 2026, at the South Shore Pavilion.

We appreciated the opportunity to share information about the April 2026 storms, MMSD’s sewer system, and what MMSD has learned through its ongoing analysis.  For those who were unable to attend, the information boards presented at the meeting are available below.

Basement Backup Reports & Claims

Thank you to everyone who has shared information with MMSD following the April storms. If you experienced a basement backup or property damage, there are two separate ways to provide information to MMSD, depending on what you need:

REPORT A WET BASEMENT TO MMSD

Tell MMSD if you had a wet basement. This information helps us understand the impacts of the storm, identify system capacity issues, and plan future investment in infrastructure and flood mitigation and resiliency measures. A link to MMSD’s website to provide such a report is as follows: https://www.mmsd.com/about-us/contact-us/reporting-wet-basement.

FILE A CLAIM WITH MMSD

Request reimbursement from MMSD for potential eligible damages or expenses. To file a claim, mail claim documentation to the Commission Secretary that includes your address, a description of the relief requested, and, if seeking monetary damages, the specific dollar amount.

Submitting the following additional information may allow MMSD to act on your claim more promptly:

  1. Proof of the dollar amount of the claim by means of itemized receipts or supporting documentation.
  2. A phone number and email address at which you can be reached during regular business hours.
  3. As detailed a description of the incident as possible, including the date, time, and location. Supporting documentation is helpful and may include photos of the damage, repair receipts for damage-related expenses, or other relevant records.

Additional information on submitting a claim to MMSD can be found via the following link: https://www.mmsd.com/about-us/contact-us/filing-claim. Please note that the submittal of a claim does not guarantee that your claim will be paid as each claim will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis as to its merits and per applicable law.

What's Next

As discussed at the open house, MMSD is planning a follow-up community meeting. We will share the date and location once details are confirmed.
