McCarty Park Trash Rack Picture and Downstream Culvert Water Depth

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collects the picture and water level data in the culvert. The trash rack picture and water level data are updated hourly during low flow and more frequently during high flow into the culvert. Access the USGS website directly to see a timeline of USGS water depth data and trash rack image data.

Trash Rack Debris Removal:

• MMSD maintains the trash rack and regularly monitors the trash rack debris.
• The rack is cleaned after rain events and when working conditions are safe.
• The trash rack is also cleaned prior to major rain events.
• MMSD coordinates with the City of West Allis and Milwaukee County Parks regarding debris accumulation and the need for debris removal.

Coyote Wildlife Sightings

MMSD and Milwaukee County Parks have received a number of questions about coyote wildlife sightings near the MMSD Honey Creek project area at McCarty Park. Coyotes have adapted to Milwaukee’s urban environment with its rivers and green spaces. In this time of year, young coyotes born in the spring leave the den and seek new territory, mates, and food sources. They are active in the day as well as at night.

If you have concerns or want to know more information about coyotes and what to do if you see one, Milwaukee County, the WI Humane Society, and WI Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) have resources available for you.

• WDNR –The WDNRs Keep Wildlife Wild webpage provides information about coyote behavior and habitat. WDNR staff can be contacted at 888-936-7921.  
• Milwaukee County – You can add your own coyote observations to the Milwaukee County Coyote Watch · iNaturalist webpage. This information assists researchers and managers in understanding urban coyote behavior and activity within Milwaukee County.
• WI Humane Society -- If you find an animal in distress, note its location and contact Wildlife Rehabilitation of the Wisconsin Humane Society at (414) 431-6204.
