Open House June 3
The MMSD project team is hosting an open house on June 3 from 4:00 -7:00. The open house will be held at the Ohio Playfield located at 974 W. Holt Avenue in Milwaukee.
The project stretches from Oklahoma Avenue to Warnimont Avenue and between 3rd and 6th Streets. This area has unique opportunities given its varied topography and land use, lack of connectivity, and safety concerns.
At the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to:
Posters and information from the open house will be posted below under Project Resources following the event.
The Holt Avenue Overpass Project is the fifth project of the Green Highways initiative. Highway runoff is the source of many forms of pollutants, including vehicular solvents, heavy metals, oils, salt, and suspended solids. This polluted runoff flows untreated through stormwater sewers into nearby waterways.
Green Highway projects redirect the polluted runoff into a variety of green infrastructure practices under and around overpasses to manage the runoff on site and keep it out of our waterways.
The Holt Avenue Overpass Project will take advantage of open space along Highway I-43 between Holt Avenue and Oklahoma Avenue and the highway’s on- and off-ramps in this area.
The Holt Avenue Project is adjacent to a closed park-and-ride location. The WI Department of Transportation’s decision regarding future use of the park-and-ride property will have a bearing on the Holt Avenue Project, with the potential for additional green infrastructure or a stormwater facility. The site could also be activated in the future for additional community uses.
Planning and design is currently underway with construction planned for summer of 2026.
