MMSD Milwaukee

See How We're Doing

  • EPA Goal for capturing and cleaning wastewater = 85%

  • MMSD's performance since 1994 = 98.4%

Here's how we're doing so far in 2017:

Volume treated

District Gallons Treated: 57,455,000,000

District Gallons Overflowed: 1,450

District Total Gallons: 57,455,001,450

District % Treated: 100.00%

Since 1994, we've captured and cleaned more than

1.6 Trillion gallons of water and wastewater

How much water is that?

If we get a uniform inch of rain over MMSD's service area that's 7.1 billion gallons of water. 1.6 trillion gallons would cover the District with a uniform 225 inches, or 18.75 feet of water.

MMSD's Milwaukee County Grounds Flood Management Project includes a 65 acre basin that holds 315 million gallons of water. 1.6 trillion gallons would fill the County Grounds basin 5,079 times.

1.6 trillion gallons would fill up MMSD's
Deep Tunnel 3,071 times

1.6 trillion gallons would fill 53 million tanker cars that hold 30,000 gallons.

1.6 trillion gallons would fill 32 billion bath tubs that hold 50 gallons.
